This year, our headliner is Tracy Grammer. Tracy blazed new acoustic trails and put Portland on the map in the folk music world, with her musical partner, Dave Carter.  Since Dave’s passing in 2001, Tracy has continued to tour nationally and internationally, and her albums consistently place at the top of the Americana radio charts across the U.S. Watch Tracy perform Blue Wing.

Winterfolk 23 will also feature:

Chris Kokesh and Lincoln Crockett – Chris is known from her work with Misty River, and has also been a winner of the Sisters, Oregon songwriting competition. Chris is joined by Lincoln on mandolin and guitar.

Doug Smith – This Grammy award winner was featured in the movie August Rush, and is a winner of the prestigious Winfield, Kansas fingerpicking competition.

Beth Wood – Recently featured on OPB’s Artbeat, Beth was a well-established artist in Austin, Texas who moved to Oregon in 2008.


Tom May
– The founder and Artistic Director of Winterfolk will again be joined by old friends Fuzzy Purcell and Donny Wright.

Duncan Phillips and friends – For the better part of 15 years, Utah Phillips headlined Winterfolk. This year, his son is releasing a CD highlighting Utah’s considerable songwriting contributions to the folk world. Duncan will be joined by Kate MacLeod, Doug Wintch and Gigi Love to present songs from the collection.


Joe Hickerson –  Joe is a long time archivist for the Smithsonian collection of folk instruments and music in Washington D.C., and is celebrating his 50th anniversary in the music business.
