170 million support public broadcasting. Do you?

While this forwarded message from NFCB speaks directly to issues facing NPR, community supported media outlets (though not KBOO directly) would also be adversely impacted by cuts in the federal budget.

From the National Federation of Community Broadcasters -

'Last Wednesday, the new Congress convened and public broadcasting funding is already being targeted for budget cuts. Majority Leader Cantor’s YouCut initiative includes a proposal to eliminate federal funding for National Public Radio. This threat is the first of many that we expect this year, and should it come to a vote, possibly as soon as next week, we need to demonstrate strong support for public broadcasting.

We will keep you posted as we learn more about the potential vote next week, but today we need your assistance to build support for public broadcasting. You can register at 170MillionAmericans.org. More than 15,000 people have registered so far on the website and Facebook, but we are going to need many times that number to protect our funding in the coming months. Please act today.'

I can see the conspiracy theorists saying that this is just another step in eliminating free speech. I can somewhat agree with them. The government, who is supposed to work for the people, seem to always have their own agenda.
