Portland, Oregon, November 2-4, 2011 — It’s time for one of the only national conferences focused exclusively on the prevention of sexual violence!  In its 3rd year, Roots of Change will be held at Portland’s Benson Hotel.  The theme for 2011 is "Social Justice and Media."  The conference is offered by the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force, in partnership with the renowned national organization Men Can Stop Rape, and co-sponsored by over 30 non-profit organizations throughout the U.S.  Speakers and workshops will address campus prevention, pop culture, media, entertainment, culturally specific prevention, and much more!

At this year’s Roots of Change, participants will get a chance to hear from and rub shoulders with Jessica Valenti of feministing.com fame and Jaclyn Friedman of WAM! Women, Action, and the Media.  Jessica and Jaclyn co-edited the book, Yes Means Yes! Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape.  Jaclyn’s brand new book, What You Really Really Want: The Smart Girl’s Shame-Free Guide to Sex & Safety, is due out Nov. 1 from Seal Press, and she will be introducing it at the conference!
