On Thursday, July 19th, 5-year-old Harry Strong and his 18-month old sister were struck by a car (while on the sidewalk) by a careless driver at 72nd and S.E. Flavel. The 5-year-old sustained significant injuries including a traumatic brain injury. Harry is now out of ICU, has been moved to Randall Children’s Hospital and mercifully, is responding well to therapy.

The Mt Scott-Arleta neighborhood has been an inspiration to many in Portland for the way they pulled together to help. Harry Strong’s family was in the middle of re-finishing their floor and had not gotten back to their home since the accident. The community finished the job for them, cleaned up the house, and mowed the lawn. They held a vigil at the site of the accident to reclaim its safety for the community.

They brought food to the hospital and have put together the PDX version of a star-studded cast for a benefit show on Friday, August 24th at The Tonic Lounge. Acts include WIZARD RIFLE, LAND BETWEEN'THE LAKES, The LOVESORES, The DECLINERS, SHANNON TOWER BAND, MC AMANDA ARNOLD, and DJ HWY 7.

The Mt Scott-Arleta community would like to encourage everyone to attend this vital benefit show and donations to the family can also be made directly to US Bank in the name of Harry Strong Benenson. 100% of all proceeds and donations will go to family to help with medical expenses.
