Hot on the heels of a show about disaster, in which Self Help Radio refused to get specific about any one particular disaster, is a program about one particular disaster: volcanoes.
To be fair, volcanoes are only a disaster to humans & other life that might be near them when they erupt. Otherwise they are kind of amazing - they make islands for pete's sake! Hawaii exists because of volcanoes! They are the natural result of the tectonic plates one which our continents sit moving around. They are the inside of the earth wanting to come out to take a look.
& yes, it may be a sore subject since Portland sits near where lots of active volcanoes are ready to possibly cause disaster. Like what happened in 1980. But maybe it's better we pay attention to volcanoes? Like having a radio show about them? It's fun to write these self-justifications. Honestly, we just had a lot of songs about volcanoes we wanted to play.
Also on the show: a fan of volcanoes! a volcanologist! a librarian with books about volcanoes! a discussion about volcano movies! It's a blast! Okay, that pun went too far. Just listen to the show. No more inter-eruptions.
