Who do you think you are?

A sweeping new survey from the Public Religion Research Institute reveals a great deal about what Americans think about themselves, their place in the world, and what, indeed, it means to be an American. In many ways, it confirms what's been increasingly clear in recent years -- how we think our ourselves is less a matter of ideology than it is of identity. It's not so much what you think or believe, it's who your tribe is -- and tribal differences will make a huge difference in how we respond, or don't, to the many challenges at hand.
