Jon Nelson hosts today's episode of the Old Mole, which includes the following segments:

Germany, Energy and Democracy: Europe, especially Germany, depends on Russia for its natural gas and oil for electric power, heating and cooling, and transport. With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Germany, Europe’s wealthiest country and political leader, has committed to become self-sufficient. But how?  Will it contract out its energy transition to big banking and business or will it create a democratically run and more reliable public system?  Bill Resnick interviews Willamette University Historian Bill Smaldone who has written the books Confronting Hitler and European Socialism, a Concise History with Documents.

Cancel Student Debt! Desiree Hellegers talks with WSU Vancouver students Ellah Allman, Flaffy Polley, and Andrea Manske about organizing to cancel student debt, the importance of integrating discussion of student debt into course work, links to the Morrill Act Indigenous Land Grab, and about how students used their May commencement ceremony to call for President Biden to cancel student debt.

Gun Laws and Lawsuits: With another round of mass shootings, the failure in the US to pass gun legislation has generated public outrage and a sense of despair. In their Left & the Law segment. Jan Haaken and Mike Snedeker talk about what progressive gun legislation might look like and some recent lawsuits against gun manufacturers. They also take up the expected ruling of the right-wing Supreme Court in overturning limits on gun ownership.
