Conversation with author, linguist and botanist Patricia Whereat-Phillips.
Patty shares about the historical and cultural uses of plants among indigenous peoples of the Oregon Coast as well as about the different languages, farming practices and cultural traditions related to early life on the coast.
Patty's book, "Ethnobotany of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians," is a true labor of love as well as an important record of how early tribal groups on our coast used the plants around them and how they managed and cultivated both native and introduced species.
