Transportation is the highest source of greenhouse gas emissions but emissions caused by residential and commercial buildings, including from electricity and natural gas use, are close behind. In 2021, while transportation was responsible for 35% of Oregon's carbon emissions, residential and commercial buildings were responsible for 34% – more than agriculture or industry. This legislative session is considering four bills to reduce the building sector's emission while also addressing the need to make buildings more resilient in the face of climate chaos.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Greer Ryan with Climate Solutions and Ana Molina, with the Oregon Just Transition Alliance about the substance of these bills and what it will mean for Oregon if they become law.
