Susan Lindauer on Libya and Obama's speech, and Joya on Afghan women's violent world

Susan Lindauer - author, CIA asset and former political prisoners - is first and foremost a specialist in Middle Easter politics and history.  Lindauer joined us this morning to parse the president's somewhat mendacious words regarding the Where and the When America chooses to get a little skin in the game.

Malalai Joya, a prominent Afghan feminist and war critic, will visit Willamette University on April 3 to speak about the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan and its impact on the country's people. Her lecture is at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium and is free and open to the public.www.willamette.edu/news/library/2011/03/joya_lecture.html

Today mass media ran riot with the story of an article that appears in the recent Rolling Stone.  In it graphic photos of the ‘Kill Team’ operating in Afghanistan, making sport of the bodiers of civilians they murdered.  Jeremy  Morlock a member of the team is co-operating with government prosecutors.  But who’s minding the store back on the ground in Afghanistan?  Malalai Joya and her Afghan Women’s Mission are becoming a powerful political force and a counterweight to the extreme violence and misogyny that has proliferated throughout the land.  and the presence of American troops seems only to have exacerbated the problems.
