Rumble on the River

For the past year a coalition of climate and social justice activists have been presenting a series of monthly Rumble On The River community forums that bring together expert voices to explain the risks of having 90% of Oregon’s fuel stored within city limits at the Critical Energy Infrastructure Hub along the Willamette River. This month the Rumble broadens its focus to examine a wide array of false climate solutions. The panel will focus on projects that are promoted by the fossil fuel and financial industries: biomass, renewable diesel, hydrogen and carbon offsets.

On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with two of Rumble on the River's organizers, Bonnie McKinlay and Lynn Spitaleri Handlin, about the purpose of these forums and what to expect at the next one, which is happening this Thursday evening at 6 pm at Augustana Lutheran Church. 2710 NE 14th in Portland.

Bonnie McKinlay is a former pickle packer and public school teacher, who likes to crunch fossil fuel projects and other bad ideas with her friends. She is on the planning committee for Rumble on the River and one of the instigators for the Emerging Coalition.

Lynn Spitaleri Handlin is an organiser/activist with Extinction Rebellion PDX, and founding member of Cascadia Magical Activists.  She spends some of her free time doing habitat restoration work with Johnson Creek Watershed Council and Mt Tabor Weed Warriors.
