On tonight's edition of Talking Earth, host dan raphael welcomes local writers Michael McDowell, Brittney Corrigan and Zaji Cox. dan will also read a couple poems by Elisa Gonzalez and Maggie Smith.
Michael McDowell has published two books of poetry, The Hundred-Year House, and Gnarl Ridge. From 2002 to 2022 with Bill Siverly he co-edited Windfall: A Journal of Poetry of Place. For thirty-five years he taught literature, composition, and creative writing at Portland Community College, specializing in nature and landscape writing, American Literatures, and ecocomposition.
Zaji Cox was the winner in poetry in PDX’s reading series, and has participated in several events including the Portland Book Festival and New Voices of Color. Her work can be found in Pathos, Cultural Daily, Year of the Asterisk and others. Her memoir, Plums for Months, was published last May by Forest Avenue Press
Brittney Corrigan is the author of the poetry collections Daughters, Breaking, Navigation, 40 Weeks and most recently, Solastalgia, a collection of poems about climate change, extinction, and the Anthropocene Age (JackLeg Press, 2023).
