Views, Reviews, and Interviews from a Socialist-Feminist, Anti-racist, Anti-colonial and LGBTQ-positive Perspective

Jon Nelson hosts this episode of the Old Mole, which includes the following segments:

Socialists and the Democrats: How should socialists relate to the Democratic Party in electoral seasons and quieter times? Bill Resnick debates with Peter Solenberger, who’s counseled that socialists should not support, or worse, work for the Democrat candidates, even in swing states where the Republican candidate is a vicious, stupid, narcissistic, racist and misogynist thug. Bill Resnick contends Socialists should practice lesser evilism in that case. Both wish that the left had a political party growing because of the popularity of its vision. Bill also points out that Socialists should commit resources into winning Ranked Choice system to determine the winner. In that case a Left Party could thrive.

Paper Cranes: Hiroshima Day is commemorated around the world annually in honor of survivors of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945 and Nagasaki three days later on August 9th. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats of nuclear weapons and nuclear power as well. In recognition of Hiroshima Day tomorrow, Jan Haaken talks with three educators from Chicago who developed a curriculum designed to teach students about the atomic bomb and its legacy for Asian-Americans. Joining Jan on the show are Laura Gluckman, a middle school teacher with Chicago Public Schools, Aiko Kojima Hibino, lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Yuki Miyamoto, an ethicist professor whose work centers on nuclear discourse and environmental ethics. Their curriculum is titled The Paper Crane Project.
