Independent animator Nina Paley slyly reimagines mythology through a feminist lens
Animator Nina Paley is one of the most independent of filmmakers. Her two feature films, Sita Sings the Blues and Seder Masochism, tackle patriarchal themes in religious narratives, and reimagine them from a feminist point of view.
A fierce advocate of copyright abolition and free culture, Paley has made all her creative work available without restriction, including her early comic strips Nina's Adventures, Fluff, and The Hots (created with writer Stephen Hersh).
