Curator Lloyd DeWitt on the Portland Art Museum's American and European rehang

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 11.30 a.m. Joseph Gallivan interviews curator Lloyd DeWitt on the Portland Art Museum's American and European reinstallation. DeWitt talks about making new connections and juxtapositions between American and French Impressionists, how portraiture can include epitaphs, Syrian Romans in togas and a Cubist George Washington, a new take on the Kress bequest, and the expansion in the concept of American art in a global world. The European Galleries reopen on June 11, as the museum is completely rehung in the run up to the opening of the Rothko Pavilion in November 2025.
