A year after the removal of the Klamath River’s four dams – the largest dam removal project in US history – a remarkable test case in how nature and people can thrive on free-flowing rivers is taking place. While the removal of most of the dams on Klamath River is being celebrated as an example of how removing dams allows river systems and the life they support to heal, there are still many dams around the United States and around the world that need to be taken down as well.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Tara Lohan, author of Undammed: Freeing Rivers and Bringing Communities Back to Life, which tells the story of how the growing dam removal movement and how demolishing these harmful, often obsolete, structures can bring new life to once-stifled waterways.
