Portland is gifted to have a mighty river flowing through the heart of the city. Unfortunately for more than a century this priceless resource has been abused, degraded and polluted, and for many decades Portlanders turned their backs on the Willamette River. But things are changing thanks to several community organizations whose mission is to reclaim the Willamette as the vital and invaluable resource that it is. One of these organizations is Willamette Riverkeeper, the oldest Riverkeeper organization in Oregon.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Heather King, co-director of Willamette Riverkeeper, about their commitment to transform the Willamette into the healthy waterway that it once was and can be again.
