The title quotes the late Kris Kristofferson (from his intro to Me and Bobby McGee). I used that recorded quote to justify some of my selections of unusual country singers in this episode of Swing’n’Country. (Hint - John Wayne is NOT one of the singers.) The popularity of country music has attracted many musicians from other genres over the years. Which is more relevant - the song or the singer? Can The Rolling Stones or Ella Fitzgerald convincingly sing country music? See what you think.
Please join me for three hours of mostly country style music - starting with Dean Martin "My First Country Song" - Saturday morning March 21st from 6 till 9 on KBOO 90.7 FM. Thanks for listening to and supporting your community radio station! Will

Bonus Audio: "Country Honk" by the Rolling Stones, from Let It Bleed 1969. Listen for the honking horns…. Later revised and released as a single - the popular "Honky Tonk Women." Neither made the program.
