What if all we had to lose were our virginity myths? Therese Shechter asks! What do you think?
This is a Bread and Roses web exclusive. Delphine Criscenzo speaks with Therese Shechter, the producer of the new documentary “How to Lose Your Virginity? What if all we had to lose were our virginity myths?” A local organization, A Fourth Act is bringing the film to Portland on May 21st along with Therese but only if 65 people buy their tickets in advance. Visit https://www.tugg.com/events/19332 to reserve your ticket. You will be asked to purchase your ticket but the amount will only be deducted once the screening takes place. You only have until May 14th to reserve your ticket.
In a culture where “Be sexy, but don’t have sex” is the overwhelming message to young women, HOW TO LOSE YOUR VIRGINITY goes through the looking glass to expose a rite of passage that everyone thinks about, but few of us truly understand. Therese is an expert on the subjects of virginity, feminism, and sexuality. She has spoken at symposiums and conferences worldwide, and her work has been featured in Salon, Elle, Forbes, The Atlantic, The Huffington Post, The Guardian, and The Jakarta Globe, among others. Therese also directed the award-winning documentary I WAS A TEENAGE FEMINIST.
In How to Lose your virginity? She layers powerful personal stories with wit, clever animation and vintage Sex-Ed films to explore critical issues around female sexuality, youth, and the confounding value of the so-called precious gift of sexual purity.
