Renters Emergency (press conference)
A Renters Emergency was declared by the Community Alliance of Tenants at a press conference and rally held Tuesday, September 15th at Penninsula Park in North Portland. Across the street from the rally, attended by about two hundred people, were two empty apartment complexes, the latest evidence of mass evictions sweeping the city this summer. Tenants and community leaders called for a one year moratorium on no-cause evictions and any rent increases over 5%.
