CLASSICS, ANTIQUES AND CURIOS: ATLANTA (ACTS OF GOD), an opera by ROBERT ASHLEY. The mythic tale of fleet-footed Atalanta and her suitor Hippomenes with his three golden apples is picked up centuries later with Hippomenes and apples replaced by three suitors from our times: Max Ernst (surrealist painter), Willard Reynolds (shaman storyteller) and Bud Powell (compower pianist). Recorded live in English and Italian at the Teatro Olimpico, Rome, in 1985 with Ashley's usual cast of performers including Thomas Buckner, Jacqueline Humbert and "Blue" Gene Tyranny.
