A fight for schools and marriage equality

Are the quality of local schools important to our community? Many Portland area voters are not yet familiar with the upcoming bond measure that will renovate and improve Portland Public School buildings. We welcome guests from Our Portland, Our Schools to discuss the PPS construction bond, and we'll hear from current PPS students on why this bond is important to them.

Our Portland, Our Schools (OPOS) is a group of parents, students, teachers, administrators and community members that have come together to support a November property tax measure to fund the rebuilding of our schools. But as a new organization we are much more. Our goal is to organize for effective management and implementation of this and subsequent bonds, as well as use this opportunity to transform our schools and education system into one that prepares our students and city for the 21st century.

Also on the show, We'll discuss the upcoming Referendum 74 on the ballot in Washington state.  Organizers from Washington United for Marriage join us in studio to talk about the marriage equality vote for Washington state residents.

This coalition of organizations, congregations, unions, and businesses are working together to defend civil marriage for loving, committed gay and lesbian couples. They believe marriage and family are about love and commitment, working together, bettering the community, raising children, and growing old together. They believe in a Washington that supports strong families and values freedom and equality. And they believe that marriage matters.
