When an individual is released from prison or jail, they are free. But are they really? Tonight, Out Loud focuses on a topic that is close to home for our queer family. Recently, Natalie Marie, an Out Loud host and producer, was dismissed from the Q Center, after failing a state-mandated criminal background check. Natalie was the "Volunteer of the Year” in 2012 for the Q Center.
We welcome Natalie to tonight’s show as a guest, to share her story and to hear her suggestions on how the system needs to change.
Emanuel Price joins us to discuss work being done to assist individuals transition from incarceration back in to society. Emanuel is the Executive Director of Second Chances are for Everyone (SCAFE). SCAFE’s mission is to provide community support services to reduce the rate of recidivism, as well as re-building & transforming lives.
Do our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer family have supports available to assist their transition back in to their (our) communities? This topic is personal, as well as private for many individuals. Yet incarceration affects many (some say all) aspects of our community.
