Is a country without detention centers possible? Join us for a discussion on a dysfonctional system.
lIsten to a conversation about U.S immigration detention centers, such as the Norwest Detention Center in Tacoma, WA, and the efforts of CIVIC, a non-profit dedicated to ending isolation for men and women in the system.
We are joined Live, on the phone from San Francisco by Christina Mansfield, co-founder of CIVIC. Christina Mansfield is an activist for social justice, a scholar, and the granddaughter of immigrants. We will discuss the hunger strike in the Tacoma detention center, isolation for men and women impacted by the system and the possibilities of living in a country without detention centers.
CIVIC aims "to end the isolation and abuse of men and women in U.S. civil immigration detention. CIVIC works toward this goal by building and strengthening community-based immigration detention visitation programs, conducting nationwide detention monitoring, and launching targeted campaigns."
