Tabla master Zakir Hussain and bass legend Dave Holland speak with daniel about Indian music meeting Jazz.

Tonight on THE OUTSIDE WORLD-- East meets West / a musical bridge: Indian classical music and western Jazz--

Daniel speaks with Zakir Hussain, master percussionist and son of the legendary Alla Rakha (the greatest tabla master in history, who played with Ravi Shankar for decades) and the great bassist Dave Holland whose career in jazz spans over 50 years, including seminal years with Miles Davis (Bitches Brew!). They will be bringing their touring show to the Schnitz next week and Zakir decided to call daniel to talk about the current show, the history of other crossovers of jazz & Indian classical, and some strange other topics (Zakir is a bit of a rascal--things can get weird, but always fun with Zakir). He then puts the great Dave Holland on the phone and we talk with him about what those now infamous BITCHES BREW sessions were like for a young, somewhat terrified bassist whom Miles only heard playing in a club in London, almost immediately turned around and walked out...and then phoned Holland the next day, asking him to come to his house in NYC to rehearse (!).

We'll of course be playing a plethora of music from both these worlds (and maybe others) throughout the show. Join us!
