Review of mystery novel set in 1920s New York with feminist themes.
Larry Bowlden reviews The Other Typist, a debut novel by Suzanne Rindell. It is about a young woman hired as a typist by the New York Police Dept. in the 1920s. Riddell has much to say about the expectations on women of that time, and how the typewriter brought women into a world populated only by men until then. The mystery element begins when another typist is hired, who shares her life and apartment with the young lead-character.
