There are few things in life you can count on more than the regularity of the tides. However, as you start to learn more about this basic natural phenomenon you begin to realize just how complex tides are - that there is a lot more to tides than high tide and low tide.
On this episode of Locus Focus, we talk with Jonathan White, author of TIDES: The Science and Spirit of the the Ocean, about the mysterious pulls and invisible forces that tides reflect and exert and how intricately they are tied to life's literal ups and downs.
JONATHAN WHITE is a marine conservationist, sailer and surfer. His first book, Talking on the Water: Conversations about Nature and Creativity, features interviews with Lynn Margulis, David Brower, Ursula K. LeGuin, Gary Snyder and others. He lives on a small island in Washington State's Salish Sea.
