Food pantries and food banks were meant to be a stopgap to prevent hunger during a slow economy. That said, the emergency food system has turned into a behemoth industry that props up many of the social ills of corporate America. Andy Fisher tackles the issue of the "hunger industrial complex" in his recent book "Big Hunger: The Unholy Alliance between Corporate America and Anti-Hunger Groups" and offers a new vision for the anti-hunger movement. We'll be talking with Andy Fisher about his book and that vision on this episode of the Food Show.
Also, we'll be talking with Charles Spence, the director of the Crossmodal Research Laboratory at Oxford University, about his book "Gastrophysics: The New Science of Eating." Gastrophysics explores how all of our senses affect how we perceive the food we eat and how tweaking some of those senses can produce radically different experiences.
We'll also be talking with permaculturist Marisha Auerbach for our monthly garden segment. We are in the heart of summer and the garden is nearing it's peak productivity. Marisha will be on to tell us how to maximize the harvest and steps we can take to get ready for fall and winter.
