Co-host Dab Steadman talks with Ryan Lutey , Executive Director, and Kim Davitt, Conservation Initiatives Manager , for the Vital Ground Land Trust in Missoula, Montana, about their organization's efforts to protect & restore grizzly bear populations by conserving wildlife habitat. The Vital Ground staff does this by protecting high value lands that grizzlies need to survive..which also provide habitat for many other animal species as well. In addition, they identify and steward critical areas that connect existing bear territories..often working with private land owners who agree to give easements for this purpose. Another phase of Vital Ground's work is to reduce conflicts between bears & people, through awareness-education, use of bear-proof garbage containers & fencing and arranging the retirement of certain grazing leases.
The organization's motto is: "Where the grizzly can walk, the Earth is healthy and whole".
