The Red Door has been developing Cop Out for the last year. The official is set to premiere is early winter. The play is a series of monologues based on interviews with law enforcement. Written by writers from across the country, the monologues depict cops of all ranks and experience as they interact with the community, each other, their families, and the institutions they represent. Needless to say, the subject matter of this play is provocative, which is exactly why the Red Door has devoted over a year to its development. Cop Out is meant to provoke conversation on a topic many of us care deeply about, on a deeper level than most of us are used to reaching.
Cop Out playwrights are stage and screen writers from across the country. The preview version of Cop Out features monologues by Shepsu Aakhu, J. Nicole Brooks, Bonnie Ratner, J. David Shanks, and Andrea Stolowitz.
Featured actors are many of Portland’s favorites. Audiences will recognize them from Hands Up, Portland Playhouse’s recent production of Fences, Artist Repertory Theatre’s Between Riverside and Crazy, and more.
