We are going to broadcast just a couple of days past the Spring Equinox- one of the days set aside in many cultures around the northern hemisphere as a time to celebrate and honor the rites of Spring and connection with the Sacred.
In this time when the world seems spinning out of balance, we are setting aside this hour to talk about the sacred flow of time that brings us to a season that resonates with balance, renewal, fertility and sex.
Let's start with an acknowlegment of a central paradox in our lives. We have an increasingly out of touch and out of control selected leader in this country, declaring phony states of emergency for political manipulation. We are a country involved in imperialist wars for more than 15 years without cease. We have the ongoing existential crisis of climate disruption - as demonstrated in Mozambique. There is a crisis of human rights, a rise of authoritarianism, and global corporate rule with the influence of the super elite. And I could keep going, but I think you get the point.
And at the same time, the trees are blooming. The robins song has returned. Daffodils are coming up, and we are looking at the greening of the year and Spring is with us again.
I hope you are able to join me in conversation this morning with Frodo Okulam, of SisterSpirit. Frodo obtained her Doctorate in Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary/Marylhurst University, an M.A. in Theology from Mount Angel Seminary and has been an Assistant Professor with the Women's Studies Department since 2000.
