Criminal justice reform bill SB1008 is stalled in the Oregon House Judiciary Committee. Will lawmakers get off the dime?

This week on Prison Pipeline, Alice Lundell with the Oregon Justice Resource Center joins host Doug McVay to talk about OR Senate Bill 1008 and prospects for juvenile justice reform in Oregon.

A package of juvenile justice reform measures in the Oregon Legislature this session were combined into SB1008. That bill passed the state Senate and went to the House, where it is now stalled. The House Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on SB1008 on April 24 but abruptly canceled a scheduled work session on the measure that was to be held April 25. That work session has yet to be rescheduled.

Will Oregon legislators get off the dime and finally do something this session to improve and reform the state's juvenile justice system?

County prosecutors are misleading the public and the legislature in an attempt to maintain the status quo, our criminally unjust criminal justice system. Can reformers get the legislature to stand up for what's right and pass these improvements?

On this edition of Prison Pipeline, host Doug McVay speaks with the OJRC's Alice Lundell about SB1008 and prospects for juvenile justice reform in this legislative session.
