Tonight, The Other Team focuses on books, music and schools.

Carla interviews Zena, from the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition, about what's happening in Oregon Schools, including networking with Gay Straight Alliances and being a resource for school staff and students.

Next, we talk with Erin Malus and Twig Deluje from Bare Bones Press & Productions about their favorite picks from Young Adult literature that LGBTQ youth might be interested in. We also hear about their writing group at SMYRC and other work they're doing in queer literature.

Grey interviews Alex from Equalize. Equalize is working to decrease the amount of homophobia and transphobia in music. Equalize is hosting an event on Dec 19 at Invasion Cafe (412 SW 4th in Portland) for a benefit for SMYRC and Equalize.

Announcements on tonight's show:

Heather Perkins plays live at Mississippi Pizza Pub on Wed Nov 11 @ 9 pm. We heard Heather's song "Can" from the CD "Voices from the Siren Nation".

Queers in History (written by Keith Stern and published by Benbella Books) is a one-stop resource for anyone who's ever been interested in the sexuality of well-known celebrities and historical figures. From Egyptian pharoahs to Catholic popes, from Neil Patrick Harris to Plato, Keith Stern has compiled hundreds of people into a one-of-its-kind book. Keith is reading from Queers in History on Thursday Nov 12 @ 7:30 pm at Powell's Books, located at 3723 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

We also heard music from Joan Jett & the Blackhearts "Androgynous", and Alix Olson "Subway Lips". The documentary about Alix Olson "Left Lane, on the road with folk poet Alix Olson" is showing in its Portland Premiere on Sat Nov 7th as part of Siren Nation's Film Festival happening at the Hollywood Theater.

We'll talk to you in the queer hour (every Tuesday @ 6pm) the first Tuesday in December.

Until then, find us on Facebook. Gender Blender and Out Loud Radio are also on Facebook.

Thanks for listening to The Other Team.
