Bill Resnick talks with black Marxist historian, Gerald Horne, about his book Jazz and Justice: Racism and the Political Economy of the Music. They consider the lives of jazz greats, the racism they faced on the one hand and the exploitation they faced on the other, and the way they nonetheless forged their own musical tradition.

Dr. Gerald Horne is the author of dozens of books and holds the Moores Professorship of History and African American Studies at University of Houston. His research has addressed issues of racism in a variety of relations involving labor, politics, art, civil rights, international relations and war. He has also written extensively about the film industry.
