On today's show, we celebrate our city's biggest literary event of the year -- the Portland Book Festival. This year, as with just about every event other than superspeader campaign rallies, the Festival is going virtual. Instead of one big day, it will take place over several weeks, entirely online, from November 5th through the 21st, and feature more than 100 authors, including our guests today Karen Russell and Liz Crain

Karen and Liz are both good friends of KBOO and our show, and two of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Karen's latest book is a new edition of her 2014 novella Sleep Donation (Vintage Books), in print for the first time and with added material including illustrations and a special Nightmare Appendix. Liz's new work is the cookbook Dumplings Equal Love: Delicious Recipes from Around the World (Sasquatch Books), which will have us all salivating over the photographs while preparing our own home-cooked shumai, XLBs, gyozas, kreplach, wontons, pelmeni, mandu, and dipping sauces.

Karen and Liz will also be previewing their Portland Book Festival events. Karen will be in conversation with Carl Hiaasen on Monday, November 9th at 5pm PST, and with Margaret Atwood on Tuesday, November 17th at 5:30pm PST. And Liz shares the virtual stage with bestselling novelist Megha Majumdar on Wednesday, November 18th at 1:30pm PST.

Please join us for another beautiful day in the neighborhood!
