Running On Air is lucky to have all-star hosts from different KBOO shows on the program to help facilitate conversations between Portland's candidates this election season.

Don Merrill

Don Merrill joined KBOO as a volunteer in 2014. He's worked in news, production, for pledge drives, at table events, live broadcasts, and has done special reporting. He is a strong believer in community radio and amplifying the voice of the everyday person.

Cory Elia

Cory Elia was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. They are an award winning multimedia journalist, editor, documentarian, podcaster, and artist. Their main focus is on politics, protests, and poverty with relation to the Portland Metro. Their video work has been used on national and international coverage of the George Floyd protests of 2020. They are also an alumni of both Portland State University and Oregon State University. They live in district 3 and work in district 4 for a non-profit as their Housing and Outreach Coordinator.

Barbara Bernstein

Barbara Bernstein is a musician, composer, performance artist and radio producer. Besides her recent documentary ‘Once a Braided River,’ her award-winning radio documentaries, internationally broadcast on public radio stations, include two pieces about the struggle to stop the Pacific Northwest from becoming a fossil fuel export hub: ‘Holding the Thin Green Line’ and ‘Sacrifice Zones; Fighting Goliath (the turbulent growth of tar sands development).’

LaNita Duke

LaNita Duke is an award-winning audio and video producer who has written, directed, and produced political news and commentary for Grassroots NW and KBOO Radio for over 25 years. Currently, Producing a nationally syndicated radio show/Podcast LTAR-Let's Talk About Race on Pacifica Radio Network and KBOO Radio.

Reed Johnson

Reed Johnson is a KBOO News reporter and anchor. He has worked at KBOO for two years, covering topics like affordable housing, policing and the rollout of Portland’s charter reform. Reed is originally from Salem but calls Southeast Portland home. He’s currently training for the Portland marathon, and when he’s not suffering through a grueling run, he likes to read, forage mushrooms and play jazz guitar.

Sam Bouman

Sam Bouman is a longtime KBOO News reporter with a special focus on policing and police accountability. He is one of the co-hosts of the show ‘Totality of Circumstances,’ a holistic, people-centered conversation about policing in Portland and beyond, with an emphasis on community oversight, social justice activism, and alternatives to current paradigms.

Lisa Loving 

Lisa Loving is the host of the KBOO talk show ‘Keeping it Real with Lisa Loving.” She’s the author of the book 'Street Journalist: Understand and Report the News in Your Community,' published by Microcosm Books. Lisa has spent her entire life in journalism, writing community news, investigative series, features, profiles, reviews and columns, and she has taught writing, reporting and radio to hundreds of independent journalists. She believes everyday people should pick up the tools of journalism and inform their communities about the news they need to know.

Annette Newell

Annette Newell has been a KBOO News producer, anchor and reporter for 7 years, and she co-hosted the station’s election coverage in the last 3 consecutive elections. She is a new reporter/anchor and the host and producer of “Speaking Freely” on 4 Alpha Media stations in the Portland Market. Annette loves to travel, and has been to 37 countries. She is a gardening fan and loves trying new recipes with her husband Graeme. She and her husband live in the Mount Tabor community in Portland.

Althea Billings

Althea Billings is the News Director at KBOO Radio, she’s a co-host of the Friday talk show ‘The Gap,’ and a panelist on the award-winning radio show ‘LTAR: Let’s Talk About Race.” When she’s not talking on the airwaves, she’s probably doing the crossword.
