The end of the road for Jordan Cove

No Kalama methanol refinery

We started out this new year hoping it would offer some respite after the ravages of 2020.  Instead we witnessed a terrorist attack at the Capitol and a second impeachment of Donald Trump. But the day before Trump slunk away to Florida and Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United States, communities around the Northwest found themselves celebrating two victories in one day. In the morning the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission unanimously denied a key permit for the Jordan Cove LNG export terminal in Coos Bay. In the afternoon the Washington Department of Ecology denied the crucial shoreline permit for the world’s largest methanol refinery in Kalama Washington.

On this episode of Locus Focus we are joined by Allie Rosenbluth with Rogue Climate in Southern Oregon, and Eric de Place, director of the Thin Green Line at Sightline Institute in Seattle, to celebrate the much anticipated demise of these two looming fossil fuel threats to our region.

Allie Rosenbluth is the campaigns director with Rogue Climate in Southern Oregon, who for the last several years has been organizing communities in five counties across Southern Oregon to stop the Jordan Cove LNG Export terminal and Pacific Connector Pipeline.

Eric de Place is the director of the Thin Green Line with Sightline Institute in Seattle.
