Legendary guitarist Tony Rice died on Christmas Day. He was a true virtuoso and innovator. Tony played in numerous bluegrass and "newgrass" ensembles and was a highly sought after session musician.
The focus this morning is on solo performances featuring his outstanding vocals and eloquent flat picking guitar work.
It was a pleasant surprise to hear J Lo sing part of "This Land is Your Land" during the inauguration. It made me wonder what Woody Guthrie what think about that. There's a set of Woody Guthrie music featuring "This Land is Your Land" with verses J Lo did not sing, as well as Joni Mitchell's 1964 version of "Pastures of Plenty".
Also featured this morning are Arlo Guthrie's inspiring recent recording of "Hard Times Come Again No More", songs to howl at the moon with, and some weather songs in honor of Groundhog Day February 2 and National Weather Person's Day February 5.
