Emerging left programs for fighting climate change: Bill Resnick interviews with Jeremy Brecher in part 3 of a 3 part series on the climate crisis. As climate change denial dies, corporate and left programs are emerging with radically different ways for saving humanity from still accelerating global slow roasting. On Monday’s Old Mole Bill and Jeremy examine the left and corporate programs, pointing out that the corporate program amounts to predation on the Federal budget (resembling how the military industrial complex milks the taxpayer) and why the left program, featuring collective effort democratically organized, is superior and much more likely to succeed.   Jeremy Brecher co-founded the Labor Network for Sustainability, written some 13 books including the classic book Strike, that chronicles worker uprisings that have punctuated U.S. history and transformed the country. His latest book Save the Humans: Common Preservation in Action is about how social movements arise and how they change the world.

Civil Suits against Big Oil: In their Left & the Law segment, Jan Haaken and Mike Snedeker provide an update on civil suits against Big Oil and report on a Congressional hearing in September targeting the fossil fuel industry and its history of deception around climate change. They talk about what is significant in this committee hearing, the politics of the current windfall of oil profits, and the challenges in fighting the industry in the courts, the legislatures and the streets.

The life and legacy of Portland activist Yvonne Simmons: Mole Desiree Hellegers and Dan Handelman of Portland Peace and Justice Works/Copwatch reflect on the remarkable life and legacy of Portland activist Yvonne Simmons, a teenage runaway and London street kid, who became a folksinger and international peace activist with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and Women in Black. A co-founder of Portland Peace and Justice Works, Simmons dodged shipers and mortar rounds in the 1990s to bring aid to women and children during the siege of Sarajevo. Yvonne died in July.
