More Hot Licks from Lesser Known Talents

This week's show finds us criss-crossing the United States, discovering more hot licks uncovered on AirPlay Direct, a music sharing site for community radio. North Carolina was especially productive, with String band veterans Balsam Range and their tune "The Girl Who Invented the Wheel", as well as two Bluegrass duos - Darin & Brooke Aldrich with their cover of Aussie superstar Kasey Chambers' "This Flower" and Frank Lee and Allie Burbrink with their take on "Little Sadie". From Michigan we find Full Cord Bluegrass (see photo) with "Cajun Mandolin" and from Utah we have 3hattrio with their hypnotizing "Dust Devil".

There are also some fine cover tunes - the Carter Family's "Hello Stranger" by Emmylou Harris & the late Nicolette Larson, Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" performed live by Shawn Colvin, Jesse Winchester's "Defying Gravity" by Cheryl Wheeler and "Trouble", a Lowell George (Little Feat) tune given a touching treatment by his daughter, Inara George with sensitive backup on piano by Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne.
In addition, there is a rewarding collaboration from the trio of k.d. lang, Laura Veirs and Neko Case called "I Want To Be There", and finally we hear from Folk mainstays Doc & Merle Watson and David Bromberg, so tune in and check it out.
