The last 10 miles of the Willamette River have been designated as a Superfund Site, a federal designation for the worst contaminated areas in the United States. The North Reach of the Willamette is one of the most complex Superfund Sites in the country. This highly contaminated stretch of the Willamette starts at the Broadway Bridge in downtown Portland and extends to its confluence with the Columbia.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk Madi Novak, Remedial Project Manager with EPA Region 10, about the progress that has been made in mitigating over a century of toxic neglect for what has become the most degraded stretch of river in the entire state of Oregon.
