On this episode of Locus Focus we honor Oregon Environment Icon Bob Sallinger, who died on October 30. For over 30 years Bob has been a regional fixture advocating and fighting to protect our rivers, wildlife, forests and communities from environmental and social degradation and injustice. One of his many gifts was his ability to effectively weave together environmental concerns, progressive politics and a feisty pragmatism that achieved results. Bob was a frequent guest here on Locus Focus and we will miss his voice, his energy and his humor. We will be honoring Bob's memory over the next few weeks by rebroadcasting his most recent appearances on Locus Focus.
On this episode we are joined by three people who worked closely with Bob over many years, in a diversity of realms: Mike Houck, director of the Urban Greenspaces Institute; Micah Meskel, Assistant Director of Urban Conservation with the Bird Alliance of Oregon and Ginny Stern, wildlife biologist and science teacher who teamed with Bob Sallinger on a wide variety of projects involving North Portland middle school students.
