Well-read Red on how the public university has transformed into a mutilated tool of capitalism.
Frann Michel offers a Well-read Red on education in the age of neoliberalism. She outlines the historical transfers of power and responsibility for public education that have deformed the public university into a crass commercial project. From there she interrogates how this situation has led to bloated administrative staff and obcene executive salaries, but also the proletarianization of faculties and the hollowing out of professional autonomy, as well student debt. In the end, she calls for a reinvigorated movement to assert the public mission of the university.
