Pray away the gay? No way! Instead, we say good-bye to Exodus International on Out Loud Radio!
Last month, Exodus International, the oldest and largest Christian ministry dealing with faith and homosexuality, issued an apology to the gay community for years of undue suffering and judgment at the hands of the organization and the church as a whole.
Alan Chambers, Exodus President, apologized on Thursday, June 20, during the television broadcast “God & Gays” on Our America with Lisa Ling. On Ling’s program, Alan Chambers sat down with nine gay and lesbian people who had at one point been involved in ex-gay ministry. This small group had left their ministries, and were now living as out gay men and lesbians. These people gathered together, and Catherine Chapman and Chris Hyde were in the church basement that day to hear Alan’s apology.
Catherine and Chris join us on tonight’s radio show to share their stories. Catherine Chapman worked as the Women’s Ministry Director with Portland Fellowship, part of Exodus International. For years, Chris Hyde has worked in the ex-gay ministry. Sister Krissy Fiction, from Portland’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, will also join us. Sister Krissy discusses her spiritual path, including time with ex-gay ministries, and how her work today with the Sisters empowers many people to embrace their faith, along with their sexuality.
