Autistic adults talk to Pamela Santos about Autism Acceptance Month
[April 3rd program rescheduled to April 10th]
Autism Acceptance Month in April is an autistic-led movement "about treating autistic people with respect, listening to what we have to say about ourselves, and making us welcome in the world." Autistic adults talk with host Pamela Santos about what acceptance means, why awareness is not enough, how they try in personal and public spaces to center advocacy around Autistic people and what neurodivergence looks like to autistic people versus allistic (not autistic) people's expectations about disability. Expect a lot of geeky cultural references, general irreverence, unfiltered conversation and dismantling of harmful misconceptions and stereotypes.
Guests:
Andee Joyce, Member of band Normal Fauna, Founder of Dorks on Parade (DoP), a Portland-area social group for autistic adults ages 18 and up, Member of the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities, former Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) Portland Chapter Leader
Kestrel Musette, Autistic advocate, DoP member
Kassiane, Autistic activist for 16 years, neurodiversity proponent, blogger for Radical Neurodivergence Speaking, reluctant mastermind of We Are Like Your Child and mentor to autistic youth in the community
Phoebe Loomis, Intersectional activist/media junkie who sounds off @MxPhoenix on Twitter & Portland Chapter Leader Autistic Self Advocacy Network (www.facebook.com/ASANPDX)
