The evolving relationship with our dogs and cats

Tune in for a stimulating discussion about how our relationship with cats and dogs has changed over the centuries. David Grimm joins host Courtney Scott in studio and reveals discoveries he made along the way in writing his book."Citizen Canine, Our Evolving Relationship with Cats and Dogs." David is an award-winning  journalist and online editor for Science Magazine. So naturally he approached this subject through a science lens. One of his intriguing discoveries is that dogs are a lot smarter than we thought, even surpassing chimps in some coginitve skills. David also explores how cats and dogs don't just laze about all day, they fulfill an important role in helping us connect to the natural (and non computerized) world around us. They are our link to a forgotten time and they serve to bring solace and comfort to the elderly, the sick and even to prisoners who help to rehabilitate dogs with behavior issues, and in the process help in their own rehabilitation. Our pets have evolved almost to people. They have gained many more rights over the last few decades, and are fast moving from property to valued member of society. And as David claims, our relationship with dogs and cats serves as an empathy bridge to other animals.  http://davidhgrimm.com/
