For years sociologist Freddie Drummond has been successfully studying the working classes by venturing into the slums south of Market Street disguised  as regular working man Bill Totts. But problems arise when he falls in love with a  union organizer named Mary Condon. And he begins to question which is his real identity, the sociologist or the working man.
