The Backstrokes Aphasia Music Group

As healthcare benefits get closer and closer to being taken away, let's always remember that pre-existing conditions happen, life happens, and disability happens. We at Bread and Roses believe that healthcare access is a basic right that everyone should have. In addition to healthcare, we also care deeply about people's identities, interests, well-being, and joy being addressed to.

This is an old episode from Cheryl's podcast recorded in 2016. It's edited for length from the original.

Meet the Founder and members of The Backstrokes, a music group for people with stroke and brain injury, especially those who acquire aphasia, a language disorder that's common after a stroke. The come together to make music, create community, and be loving supports to one another. They're also really, really fun to play with. After recording them, Cheryl joined the group (until she forgot she was in the group and stopped showing up). Enjoy!
