Toward the end of 2016 Sightline Institute's Programs Director Eric de Place created a Trump Time Capsule project. He sent out an email to his friends and colleagues asking them to write down their predictions for the future, trying to envision the unusual events and disruptions of the impending Trump presidency. Will Trump be impeached? Over what issue? Will he start a war? With whom? Will the markets melt down? What will trigger it?
On this episode of Locus Focus Eric returns to open the time capsule and see if anyone could possibly have imagined what has actually transpired in the past year. We'll talk about fears that have been realized as well as achievements that have successfully repelled parts of the Trump agenda, particularly in local struggles to stop fossil fuel development in the Northwest.
Eric de Place, Sightline Institute programs director, oversees Sightline’s research and communications teams. He is also a researcher, writer, speaker, and policy analyst who spearheads the Institute’s work on energy policy. Known as a leading expert on coal and oil export plans in the Pacific Northwest, he is considered an authority on a range of issues connected to fossil fuel transport, including carbon emissions, local pollution, transportation system impacts, rail policy, and economics.

Thursday, January 11th is the release date of Oil Change International's new report on potential Greenhouse Gas emissions from the proposed Pacific Connector Pipeline and Jordan Cove Fracked Gas Export Terminal. David Turnbull of Oil Change International will be part of a program of speakers and entertainment.
Communities across Oregon and Northern California are heading to Salem for leadership on climate. Stand up to oppose the Pacific Connector Pipeline and the Jordan Cove Liquefied Gas Export Terminal. This 229-mile pipeline and fracked gas export project threatens 400 waterways, tribal territories and cultural sites, tramples the rights of landowners through use of eminent domain, disrupts wild habitat, puts existing jobs in fishing tourism, and other sectors at risk, drives up energy prices, and become the largest source of climate pollution in the state of Oregon.
