Trees that would be removed as part of the SW Capital Highway Expansion projec
Suzanne LaGrande interviews homeowner Andrea Firpo about her efforts and that of other homeowners to stop the removal of 306 trees in the area

Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is planning to create sidewalks and bike lanes along both sides of SW Capitol Highway, with construction slated to start in spring of 2019. This would mean eliminating 306 trees and creating 12 foot retaining walls. Andrea Firpo, homeowner and resident of this area, says that homeowners were not made aware of this project until late in the process when the plans were finalized. She also says that the Urban Forestry Commission was not made aware of these plans which will have a big impact on the topography, trees and natural spaces in the area. Suzanne LaGrande speaks with Andrea Firpo about her efforts and the efforts of homeowners in the area to fight PBOT's decision and and  preserve the urban forest in this area.
